On 5th June, the Indian team will be playing their first match of the World Cup against the struggling South African side which has lost their first two matches and are in search of redemption. The game is going to take place in Southampton, which will also be the first game at this venue.
Team India is the last team to begin it’s campaign and are looking confident coming into the tournament after their win against Bangladesh in the second practice match. On the other hand, South Africa is facing injury issues, and it will be interesting to see with what team combination they play against India.
One of the significant concerns for team India was the No.4 question, which was put to rest by KL Rahul’s magnificent hundred in the practice match. The form of the openers might be a concern, but the team won’t ponder over that thought much as we know how dangerous Rohit and Dhawan can be.
It will be interesting to see whether India will play with both the wrist spinners as they have done great against South Africa or will Ravindra Jadeja come in to strengthen the batting line-up. Also, Bhuvneshwar Kumar might be picked over Mohammad Shami seeing the conditions and pitch.
Probable XI for India
Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar/Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah.
South African team has lost their first two games and will be looking to bounce back against India. Dale Steyn has been ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury, and Lungi Ngidi’s status is still in clouds.
Hashim Amla didn’t play the last game and should be fit to play against India.
With Dale Steyn being of the equation, Dwaine Pretorius might get a chance in the playing XI. Also, Chris Morris bowled economically, and also picked two wickets in the previous game, and will play a crucial role against India.
Probable XI for South Africa
Quinton de Kock, Hashim Amla, Aiden Markram, Faf du Plessis, Rassie van der Dussen, JP Duminy, Andile Phehlukwayo, Chris Morris, Dwayne Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir.
