It’s Pakistan going against West Indies in the second match of the World Cup at Nottingham. Both the teams are not among the favourites to win the World Cup but do have the capability to give an upset to any top team on their day.
West Indies team rely on their batting power whereas the Pakistani batsmen prefer to build and pace up their innings except for Fakhar Zaman. Bowling unit of both the sides has not been that impressive in the past and do lack as compared to other teams in the tournament.
The batting unit has a right blend of experience and youth with likes of Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez. Babar Azam has been in great touch, scoring good in practice matches. Babar, Farkhar and Imam have averaged 50 in last one year and will be the strong pillars of their batting unit.
Bowling has not flourished for Pakistan team in the past. Wahab Riaz has been called back who didn’t play an ODI since Champions Trophy in 2017. Mohammad Amir shares almost the same story who has only play three ODI’s in the last three months. Shaheen Afridi has been the pick of Pakistani’s quick of late, will lead the attack with Mohammad Amir.
Probable XI for Pakistan
Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam, Haris Sohail, Sarfraz Ahmed, Shoaib Mallik, Imad Wasim, Shahbad Khan, Mohammad Amir, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi.
Shai Hope stated after West Indies scored 441 in practice match that they would like to be the 1st team to score 500 in an ODI. With the batting prowess their batsmen posses and with likes of Chris Gayle and Andre Russell in the group, the Caribbean can surely do so. Each batsman in practice matches scored decent, which was a good sign for the team. Shai Hope will be the player to watch out for, as he has been in excellent form lately.
West Indies bowlers have conceded more than run an over in last twelve runs with the second worst economy rate among the teams in the tournament. Shannon Gabriel and Oshane Thomas are the only two bowlers who have an average under 35 for the Caribbeans. Ashley Nurse will only be a spinner if Sheldon Cottrell doesn’t get the playing.
Probable XI for West Indies
Chris Gayle, Even Lewis, Shai Hope, Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Ashley Nurse, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Kemar Roach.
Dream XI Prediction:
- Wicket-Keeper: Shai Hope(C)
- Batsmen: Baba Azam, Imam-ul-Haq(VC), Fakhar Zaman, Darren Bravo, Chris Gayle
- All-rounders: Jason Holder, Andre Russell
- Bowlers: Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, Ashley Nurse
The game will be played at Trent Bridge which will be a batting friendly wicket. Plenty of runs will be scored tomorrow seeing the batting line-up of both the sides. Toss won’t be a crucial factor as the pitch won’t change much during the game.
