Warriors upset the Houston Rockets once again this year by 118-113 on Saturday at the Toyota Center, Houston and reach the Conference finals against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Stephen Curry led the Warriors’ squad with 33 points in 34 minutes along with five rebounds and four assists. Beside him, Klay Thompson had 27 points, Iguodala had 17 points, and Draymond Green had 8 points, seven assists and ten rebounds. From the bench, Looney had 14 points, and five rebounds and Livingston had 11 points.
In the losing effort for the Rockets, Harden scored 35 points, five assists and eight rebounds, Paul contributed 27 points, six assists and 11 rebounds while PJ Tucker and Clint Capela had 15 and 10 points respectively.
Now, we will witness history created in front of us when the Curry Brothers will face off in the Western Conference Finals. Its first time that Curry brothers, Steph and Seth Curry, will face each other in a conference final. It is indeed the first time that any set of brothers will compete in the conference finals in the NBA history according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
According to Rachel Nichols, Dell and Sonya Curry will flip a coin before each match to split which kid to root for and which parent wears which team’s gear.
We saw what happened in the last game between the Warriors and the Rockets when Steph made us recall the good old days. After being scoreless in the 1st half, Curry blasted for 33 points in the second one to take his team on the road to the Conference Finals. Klay was also in the “Splash Brother Mode” and dropped 27 points in the game. And one thing to keep in mind here is that all of this happened in the absence of their star player, Kevin Durant and DeMarcus Cousins who were sidelined due to injuries.
On the other hand, Trail Blazers gunned out the second seed Denver Nuggets in the seven games round 1 to finally get into the playoffs after almost 19 years. This is a historic moment for them, and they would be looking to upset the top seed Golden State Warriors although it will be an uphill task.
CJ McCollum led the Blazers with astounding 37 points and nine rebounds, Damian Lillard, with an off night, scored 13 points and ten rebounds, Kanter had 12 points with 13 rebounds. From the bench, Turner had 14 points and seven rebounds.
KD suffered a calf strain in Game 5 vs the Rockets and is ruled out for the Game 1 against Blazers. DeMarcus Cousins is already out from the starting of the playoffs due to a quad injury and remains out for the rest of the postseason.
Jusuf Nurkic is out due to a leg injury from the regular season and remains out for the rest of the postseason. Rodney Hood is considered day to day due to a knee injury.
Predicted Match Lineups:
Golden State Warriors: Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, Draymond Green, Andrew Bogut
Portland Trail Blazers: Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, Maurice Harmless, Al-Farouq Aminu, Enes Kanter
Even though the Warriors are missing their key player Kevin Durant, they have enough firepower left, which includes Curry, Klay, Green and Iguodala. They are still on a heavy side when compared to the Blazers.
Lillard was off-colour in Game 7 against the Nuggets, but C J had his back. This time he has to get back in his rhythm because it’s the defending championships that they are about to face and it will be difficult for his team if he is not in his zone.
It will be a good and close game to call, but Warriors have the edge over the Blazers in terms of players and the home court and supportive crowd.
Warriors to beat the Blazers in Game 1.
