The IPL version of the Game of Thrones will begin at 4 PM IST sharp tomorrow when the Kings in the North will take on the Kings in the South at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
CSK faced the first loss of the season at the hands of the Mumbai Indians in their last game. Despite the loss, the Superkings will be confident enough to face KXIP at their fortress in Chennai.
KXIP, on the other hand, is on a high note after winning a close encounter against the Delhi Capitals in Mohali. Having performed well at the batting friendly pitches at Mohali, Jaipur and Kolkata, it will be interesting to watch how the kings will manage to bat on the spinning track at Chennai.
This season the pitch at Chepauk has seen some unpredictable behaviour. The track has favoured the bowling attack, especially the spinners and is expected to do so on the match day too. With no dew factor in the picture, the better bowling attack can have an edge in the game.
The biggest loss for the CSK in the previous match came in the form of Dwayne Bravo who has been ruled out of the IPL for 2 weeks citing an injury. Deepak Chahar will look to fill the void and perform in the death overs in the absence of Bravo.
Suresh Raina has not produced a big innings although has been striking the ball cleanly and it is high time he showcases his best self with a big knock. With him, Ambati Rayudu’s form has also added to Dhoni’s worries.
Mitchell Santner and Harbhajan Singh might find a place in playing XI for this match.
CSK Probable XI:
Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir
Kings XI Punjab
The Kings in the North have played well this season, performing well in all the departments. Since they have played on batting surfaces so far, it will be a challenge for them to bat on a spinning track.
Sam Curran has sealed a spot in the playing XI after a splendid performance against the DC. Hardus Viljoen will be replaced by Chris Gayle who stands fit for the match. Rest of the lineup is expected to be same.
KXIP Probable XI:
Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Mayank Agarwal, David Miller, Mandeep Singh, Sam Curran, R Ashwin, M Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Mujeeb ur Rehman
Dream XI Prediction
- Wicket-Keeper: KL Rahul
- Batsmen: Suresh Raina, Shane Watson, Chris Gayle, David Miller
- All-Rounder: Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner, Sam Curran
- Bowlers: Imran Tahir, M Ashwin, Mujeeb ur Rehman
R Ashwin will face his former home team for the first time at Chepauk. He knows the ins and outs of the wicket here, but the track has changed relative to the last year.
Both the teams have 6 points each in the points table. Going by the stats, Chennai has won 4 out of last 5 matches against KXIP.
With the home crowd at their back, CSK has an edge over KXIP in this game.
