Gear up for one of the biggest sports carnivals of India! IPL 2019 is finally here!
It’s RCB taking on the reigning champions CSK in the season opener. What else would you ask for other than seeing MS Dhoni vs Virat Kohli in the first match of the season?
One side we have RCB, who have got some good new players into their team like Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis and Shivam Dubey in this year’s auction. They already have two world-class players of T-20 Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers. And with Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee leading the bowling attack the team looks good.
On the other side, we have Captain Cool MS Dhoni and Co. who’ll be trying to win another championship this year. CSK is known to keep their core same and has done the same this year too. They only bought two new players this season, one of them being Mohit Sharma.
With the likes of Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina up the order they have a good batting lineup. And then you have Dwayne Bravo, Ravinder Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell Santner to handle the bowling.
Team Preview :
RCB: Nathan Counter-Nile and Marcus Stoinis have been called for international duty which means they’ll miss out on a few starting matches for RCB. Tim Southee should be leading the pace attack with Umesh Yadav.
Parthiv Patel and Moeen Ali might open the batting for the visitors. Also, RCB might try Hetmyer for the first few matches.
Yuzvendra Chahal will be crucial at Chidambaram Stadium as the pitch is suitable for spinners.
Probable Playing XI: Parthiv Patel, Moeen Ali, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Shimron Hetmyer, Pawan Negi, Shivam Dubey, Tim Southee, Deepak Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav.
CSK: The defending champions will be aiming to bring their best foot forward. They have a great combination of batsman and bowlers. Suresh Raina scored well in the practice match which shows the form he is still in. Also, Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis might open the batting.
As the pitch favours the spinners, so they might play Karn Sharma or Harbhajan Singh over one fast bowler.
They suffered another blow in the name of Lungi Ngidi, who has been ruled out of IPL due to injury which is a big blow for the team.
Probable Playing XI: Ambati Rayudu, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Dwayne Bravo, Ravinder Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh/Karn Sharma, Deepak Chahar, Mitchell Santner.
What About the Venue :
The match is being played at M.A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Last year only one game was played at this venue. The stadium is known for the atmosphere and the cricket-loving fans who always turn out in huge numbers.
Since past, the pitch at Chennai has been favouring the spinners. Chahal has his best bowling figures on this ground. Considering this fact, both the teams would be planning to play an extra spinner in the playing XI. The dew factor will also play some role at night which adds another twist to the tale.
So in a nutshell, Chepauk has had high scoring matches, and the same would be expected this time seeing the power-packed line-ups for both the team.
