Delhi Capitals have been continuously underperforming in the IPL, sitting at the last of the table since 2013. This also resulted in a drop in their fan base around these years.
Elite players like Sehwag, Gambhir, AB de Villers, and David Warner have been part of this team but could not help succeed its cause. But all this was in the past.
Delhi Capitals will come fresh and robust in this years’ IPL with a bunch of new players and an experienced coach, Ricky Pointing. They swapped Shikhar Dhawan from Sunrisers for three players, which was considered a questionable move but did get the hopes of the fans up a bit.
They have young Indian players like Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant and the captain himself, Shreyas Iyer. Also with the likes of Axar Patel and Colin Ingram, Delhi’s batting looks strong.
Now talking about their bowling attack, it is led from the front by two of the world class pacers, Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada. They also have Ishant Sharma and Avesh Khan who adds up to the bowling attack. Thus, the bowling lineup seems up and running for now.
Most of the players in Delhi have been doing well in recent international cricket matches which showcases the type of the form they are in. For Example, Kagiso Rabada has been performing exceptionally well against Sri Lanka with a bowling economy of around 4 in the ODI’s. Thus, he can be a great asset to the team.
The lineup is composed of good All-Rounders like Axar Patel, Colin Ingram, and Hanuma Vihari, who will play a significant role for the team with the bat as well as with ball.
Delhi’s strength has always been the group of Indian players who are accustomed to the Indian conditions, and that’s one of the reasons why they end up buying so many young Indian players.
But what is probably going to be their biggest strength is their experienced bowling attack. Both Rabada and Boult have been doing well internationally. Delhi will keep high hopes on the speedsters to give early breakthroughs to the team.
Delhi has lost Chris Morris due to injury which may affect the team as Morris has been around for a while as an excellent all-rounder for the team.
The young bunch of guys will be a concern for the team. They have Shikhar Dhawan top of the order but lack experience in the middle order. There will be loads of pressure on Shreyas Iyer to keep the middle order steady.
Key Players :
Shikhar Dhawan has been out of form lately but will be a crucial player top of the order. On the other hand, both the foreign bowlers, Boult and Rabada will be someone to look out for.
Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw showed great potential last year in the IPL. It would be exciting to see how these youngsters perform this time around.
Delhi Capitals always had a good team on paper but were not able to deliver to their potentials. This time also they have a good bunch of players to look out for. If they get a good start early in the tournament, they might make it to the playoffs and even the finals of the IPL 2019.
