After unsuccessful attempts at Anthony Davis, Lakers have nothing but the buyout market to find something that could make them better.
They went in for Kanter but were beaten by the Blazers there. They still are going in for Markieff Morris as per reports.
The Lakers are giving preference to the players that have played recently, so Carmelo Anthony is far down on that list. However, if they are not able to land Morris, who by the way is also considering Houston, OKC and Toronto, then there is a possibility that Lakers go for Melo.
Melo has not played a game since November 8 but has been keeping himself in shape. He was averaging 13.4 points with the Rockets and was shooting 40.5 % from the field.
The question however is, What can he bring to the table for the Lakers??
I believe Lakers can benefit a lot from his 3-point shot. Melo can still knock down a three-pointer from almost every angle on the court. The second thing which he adds to the table is his experience and the maturity that will help stabilise the young squad.
Melo can give a boost to the scoring when his friend Lebron James takes a rest during the game. However, his slow pace and weak defence can even cause havoc. We all know Lakers are a fast team and with Melo slowing down their pace, this move can also harm them. Moreover, they have Rondo and James as the two players with a lot of experience and maturity. So I don’t think Lakers’ management will take a risk with Melo.
The Lakers are currently 10th in the West and even after Lebron joining the team after the injury, they have not been looking good. They need to make something happen here to get back into contention.
