The advent of the 12th season of Indian Premier League is just around the corner, and we can’t calm ourselves already.
A tournament to promote cricket in India, IPL also provides a platform for local as well as International players to showcase their talent on a larger scale. It is the most attended Cricket festival among the leagues of Big Bash league, Natwest T20 Blast, and others.
This year’s IPL will be played in India and will begin from the 23rd of March. Apart from big names in cricket nowadays, here is the list of 5 dark horses who can turn the tables around in their teams’ favour this season.
#1 Shubham Gill (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Shubham Gill is the under 19 World Cup star who impressed with his match-winning knock of 102 against Australia in the Semi-final. He has been praised by the cricketing fraternity and will be a player to watch out for this season.
The right-handed batsman recently knocked down 268 against Tamil Nadu in Ranji Trophy and has been consistent in his scoring. Having scored 201 runs in 13 IPL matches at an average of 33.83, KKR will be expecting some match-winning knocks from him this season.
#2 Prithvi Shaw (Delhi Capitals)
Considered as a cricket prodigy, Shaw plays for Delhi Capitals (former Delhi Daredevils). Another star from the Under 19 World Cup, he marked his presence in the International Cricket by smashing a century against the West Indies in 2018. He is the youngest Indian to score a century on a debut test match. The 19-year-old hurt his ankle against Australia XI in December and currently regaining his fitness at the NCA in Bengaluru.
#3 Jaydev Unadkat (Rajasthan Royals)
The left-handed pacer impressed buyers yet again and bought back by Rajasthan Royals for a whooping 8.4cr INR. In Jan 2019, he became the only second bowler for Saurashtra to take 200 wickets in Ranji Trophy.
Unadkat has trained under Wasim Akram who termed him as an exciting prospect for the future. While playing for Rajasthan Royals in 2018, he raked in 11 wickets in 15 Matches.
#4 Varun Chakaravarthy (Kings XI Punjab)
Sold to Kings XI Punjab for 8.4cr INR, this emerging spinner played a crucial role in the victory of Madurai Panthers in recently concluded Tamil Nadu Premier League. A former freelancer architect, he was also a net bowler for Chennai Superkings and KKR. With an ability to bowl with multiple variations and economy of 4.7, he surely has set the bar high for the spinners.
#5 Sam Curran (Kings XI Punjab)
Another Child prodigy in our list, Curran is the younger son of former Zimbabwe cricketer Kevin Curran. Seen as a future all-rounder for England’s team, Sam is a left-handed batsman and a left-arm pacer.
With 513 runs and 15 wickets in 9 Test matches, Curran has made a substantial impact in International Cricket. Kings XI Punjab invested 7.2 cr INR on Sam, and this amount will surely pay off this season.
